When Waves announced the release of StudioVerse Audio Effects with Waves V15, it was more than just an update. It marked the transformation of Waves StudioRack, already a powerful plugin chainer, into a fully AI-powered platform for mixing and sound design.
If you’ve ever wanted access to thousands of professional Waves plugin chains, from Grammy-winning engineers and producers, directly inside your DAW, StudioVerse is the tool that makes it happen.
In this review blog post, I’ll walk you through what changed in Waves V15, how StudioVerse Audio Effects works, why it’s a game-changer for music producers and sound engineers, and how you can instantly boost your workflow.
From StudioRack to StudioVerse Audio Effects
Before Waves V15, StudioRack was already a hidden gem for building plugin chains, running parallel or multiband splits, assigning macros, and saving everything as .xps presets.
With V15, it has been rebranded and revamped as StudioVerse Audio Effects. The familiar workflow is still there, but now it’s expanded with AI-powered search and a global community of mix-ready plugin chains created by world-class engineers.
From drum bus processing to polished vocal setups and complete mix templates, these Waves chains load instantly inside StudioRack, giving you a professional starting point you can tweak, customize, and save for future mixing projects.
Key upgrades include:
- AI-powered chain recommendations: Play your track, hit “Scan,” and StudioVerse suggests plugin chains tailored to your audio.
- Thousands of mix-ready chains: Curated by top engineers like Chris Lord-Alge, Andrew Scheps, Young Guru, and Manny Marroquin (including some of my “SMM”).
- Smarter search tools: Browse chains by tags, genre, plugin, or function.
- Seamless DAW portability: Chains built in Logic can load in Pro Tools, Cubase, Studio One, or FL Studio.
- Improved macro controls: Each chain features eight customizable macros for quick, intuitive tweaks.
- Parallel & multiband splits: Effortlessly build advanced processing without complex routing.
In short, StudioVerse Audio Effects is StudioRack evolved into a modern, community-driven mixing platform.
How to Use Waves StudioRack
Even though StudioVerse is the new name, the foundation is still StudioRack, and understanding its core features makes all the difference.
- Loading plugins: You can insert Waves plugins or any VST3 plugin you own directly into StudioRack.
- Parallel Split: Lets you process signals side-by-side (e.g., clean vocals parallel-compressed with a CLA-76).
- Multiband Split: Process lows, mids, and highs separately with different plugins for ultimate control.
- Macros: Assign up to 8 key parameters across multiple plugins to one knob or fader. For example, one macro can increase vocal brightness by adjusting EQ and compressor attack simultaneously.
- Saving Chains: Once you’ve built the perfect combination, save it as a .xps preset. Then you can recall and reuse complete mixing plugin chains in other projects.
In my current session, I mix some drums, and I’m running everything through just one plugin per track: StudioRack loaded on the Drum Bus channel. Instead of stacking plugins across multiple inserts, you can drop them all into StudioRack and treat it like your personal chain hub.
I can add, bypass, swap, or remove plugins easily. I can also do more advanced stuff like parallel splits or multiband splits (treat different frequency ranges separately). For example, I enhanced the bass, compressed just the mids of the drums while saturating the highs, all in one plugin window.
What really sets StudioVerse apart, though, is the community aspect. Seeing how other engineers build their chains teaches you techniques you might never have tried.
It’s like having access to a library of session templates from some of the biggest names in the industry!
